Shiatsu
Shiatsu is an ancient traditional oriental healing art that harmonises the energy flow in the body creating equilibrium and ease. Originally from Japan, the deep relaxation experienced through this touch based therapy helps to restore the body’s innate self-healing capacity.

“Smile, breathe and go slowly”
(Thich Nhat Hanh)

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a gentle non-invasive hands-on therapy that will complement any existing medical treatment plans. It addresses not only the presenting symptoms of a condition but also the underlying causes.  Shiatsu is a unique body therapy that operates on all the different energy levels of the body: physical, emotional/psychological and spiritual.

Literally translated as ‘finger pressure’, Shiatsu uses light pressure from thumbs and hands applied to the acupressure points and meridian channels in the body, which are known in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat each client according to their specific health needs.

What to Expect from a Shiatsu Treatment

Your Shiatsu Body Treatment will differ from a regular massage in that you will wear loose, comfortable clothing and will be treated on a soft futon on the ground, or if you prefer, sitting on a chair.  A Shiatsu treatment includes mindful touch and palm healing, gentle stretches and rotations of the limbs and joints, to move and balance Chi (energy) in the body.

Prior to your treatment we will discuss your medical history, diet and lifestyle, and any arising issues.  During the session you may remember other important questions or concerns relevant to your Shiatsu treatment which we will integrate.  Dietary or lifestyle suggestions, exercises, natural remedies and applications may be recommended for you to practice at home.

Who is it for ?

You don’t need to be ill to benefit from Shiatsu, prevention is better than cure.

Shiatsu is suitable for all ages and stages in life, women, men, children and babies, sports-people as well as the elderly.  Regular Shiatsu body treatments help to release physical and emotional trauma and stresses, regulate the nervous system alongside the organs, successfully treating many chronic and complex conditions.
